Counting in Trees!

The kids learned a way to determine how old a tree is. One way to find out is count the rings inside of a tree trunk. Afterwards, the children cut out a circle, and drew rings on it to match the age of each tree. M said his tree was 8 years old, so he drew 8 rings.

L is investigating outdoors to see how many trees she can count.

My little explorers!

I think the kids loved this activity the most. They had fun singing a song called, "One Apple, Two Apples".

One apple, two apples three apples, four, Five apples, six apples falling on the floor (kids use their hands to slap the floor)....rolling to my door,....crunch...yum   ahhh, no more!

The kids discussed what kinds of things they might see falling from a tree. C said apples can fall from a tree. K said berries fall from a tree. Then, they wadded up paper, and took turns tossing the paper into a bucket.

We were supposed to do the above exercise using paper bags. As you can see it was too windy outside. I decided to use the bucket instead.

Each child used their paper bags to collect items from nature. Afterwards, they glued the items into a keepsake book.

C found a leaf and glued it into the book.

L found a tiny twig, and glued it into her book.

The children had fun playing a game called "Adding Tree". They took turns rolling the dice , added the sum together, counted the same amount of acorns, and placed them into the tree.
